Cosmetic ear surgery for women

Prominent („dumbo“) ears should be corrected during childhood, since the cartilage is still very soft and the child will not experience any psychological trauma associated with such features. Prominent ears can also be corrected when the patient is older.

What does the surgery involve?

Operations on children between the ages of 4 to 10 will be performed under general anaesthetic, adults will receive local anaesthetic. The operation will last between 30 – 45 minutes for both ears.

What happens after surgery?

After the operation, the patient will have a compression bandage for 4-7 days, this may vary individually. It helps to wear a headband during the night for up to 3 weeks, after the bandage has been removed.

The scars are behind the ear and therefore invisible. In very rare cases, hypertrophic scars may occur.
