Breast lift for women

A breast lift is closely linked to a breast reduction. Drooping breasts negatively influence the self-esteem of women who may wish to re-establish a younger look and an improved shape. Due to hormonal influences, the volume of a breast may vary. Pregnancies or great weight loss my change the form of the breast.

What does the surgery involve?

It involves re-positioning, augmentation plus excess skin and tissue removal. A breast lift can also be performed without the removal of tissue - only excess skin is removed and the breast is reformed. The nipple area will have to be relocated according to the form of the breast, so the cut is performed from the areola to the inframammary fold. The scars are usually very subtle and unobtrusive. Breast reduction

In a breast reduction, mammary tissue is removed along with the excess skin and fat, unlike a breast lift. Health insurance will pay for the operation if more than 500 gr per breast is removed. Less than this is considered a cosmetic operation and the health insurance companies will not pay for it.

What does the surgery involve?

There are a variety of incision options for this procedure with the so-called T-cut and the vertical cut being the most common. The decision of which option is best for the patient can only be made after a thorough examination. The procedure will include the relocation of the nipple and occasionally a reduction of the areola is also necessary.

The operation lasts 2-3 hours and is performed under a general anaesthetic.

What happens after surgery?

After the operation, a rest period of 3-4 weeks is essential. A more substantial breast reduction needs even more time. It is also important to wear a special bra day and night for over 6 weeks (with a periareolar cut 8 weeks are recommended).Occasionally, there is some numbing around the areola is limited, however, breast feeding is usually still possible with all of the techniques.
